Ink drawings on paper, inspired by the movements and poses of dancers
Opening: 3–5 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2009
In-store performance by Spectrum Interview
Zulu Records presents: Improvised Distractions is a new series of ink drawings on paper inspired by the movements and poses of the dancers Hutzulak works with as a musician. In this context the paper is an empty practice space, a open room to move in. Lines and shapes drawn with a vast assortment of felt pens stretch and spin, landing in a pile of faces and limbs. In the spirit of the improvisation that characterizes the music and dance, these drawings are a product of spontaneous composition, executed from memory and imagination alone.
Lee is now documenting the creation of his drawings from blank sheet to finished piece, using an overhead camera taking 1 photo every second. These short videos are coupled with Hutzulak's various music projects as a soundtrack and posted on his YouTube channel.
